September is School Board Recognition Month

The Minnesota School Boards Association has set September as Minnesota School Board Recognition Month, a time to show appreciation for the dedicated service and contributions of school board members both here in Anoka-Hennepin and across the state.

This year’s statewide theme, School Boards help Minnesota Kids Rise, celebrates the essential role locally elected school boards play in helping students achieve their highest potential.

As representatives of the communities they serve, School Boards are responsible for creating a vision and direction for schools and through their leadership they:

  • Set a clear vision focused on student success and lifelong learning;
  • Ensure responsible stewardship of public resources;
  • Support safe and welcoming learning environments;
  • Expand options that prepare students for college, careers, and life;
  • Partner with families, educators, businesses, and the community to strengthen public education;
  • Monitor progress and make informed decisions that continuously improve student outcomes.

“Anoka-Hennepin’s mission to effectively educate each of our students for success serves as a foundational goal for all of us,” commented Superintendent Greg Cole. “The School Board joins together with the communities served to ensure success for every student which is a key component in supporting the statewide “Minnesota Kids Rise” effort.

The Anoka-Hennepin School Board includes six members who each represent an election district that serves a population of approximately 45,000 residents. Regular meetings and work sessions are held at the Sandburg Education Center in Anoka and are both open to the public and livestreamed for stakeholder awareness.
